MEAM Seminar: “Making Dynamic Robots Taskable”

January 30 at 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

In this talk, I will share some insights and observations from our work on Atlas, the world’s most dynamic humanoid robot. I’ll talk about some of the core ideas—like model-predictive control (MPC)—that have made an impact for us, how learning is playing a larger role in how we design control systems at Boston Dynamics, and how we think about scaling up through real world deployments.

Scott Kuindersma

Senior Director of Robotics Research, Boston Dynamics

Scott Kuindersma is the Senior Director of Robotics Research at Boston Dynamics where he leads behavior research involving Atlas and Spot. Prior to joining Boston Dynamics, he was an Assistant Professor of Engineering and Computer Science at Harvard. He received his PhD from UMass Amherst supported by a NASA Graduate Fellowship. He completed his postdoc in the Robot Locomotion Group at MIT where he was the controls lead for the MIT DARPA Robotics Challenge team. Scott’s research explores intersections of machine learning and model-based control to improve the capabilities of mobile manipulators.
